Capcom is actively enhancing Monster Hunter Wilds' performance ahead of its official launch, with a focus on optimizing PC GPU requirements. Discover the latest updates regarding Capcom’s optimization strategy below.
Capcom Enhancing Monster Hunter Wilds Performance Ahead of Launch
Targeting Lower GPU Requirements for PC Gamers
In a recent update posted on January 19, 2025, via the Monster Hunter Germany Twitter (X) account, Capcom confirmed it is refining Monster Hunter Wilds’ performance before release. The developers are implementing improvements similar to the newly showcased “Prioritize Framerate” mode seen on PS5, which boosts frame rates while slightly reducing graphical quality.
The same optimization efforts are being applied to the PC version, with particular attention given to potentially lowering the game’s recommended GPU specifications. According to the post: "Performance will be improved in a similar way and we are looking into whether we can lower the recommended GPU requirements."
Currently, the minimum GPU requirement includes the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super and AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. If Capcom successfully reduces these demands, players with entry-level or mid-range GPUs could still enjoy a smooth experience at lower settings, significantly increasing the game's accessibility.
Additionally, Capcom plans to release a free benchmark tool to help players assess their system performance and determine optimal in-game settings. This means you may not need to upgrade your current PC hardware if the optimization meets expectations. For more details about Monster Hunter Wilds, check out our dedicated article.
Performance Challenges During the First Open Beta
During the first open beta test held in October and November 2024, many players encountered unexpected performance issues. Steam users reported low-poly NPC models and monster designs that appeared overly simplified—some even likened them to graphics from the PlayStation 1 era.
Alongside visual concerns, reports of severe frame drops and stuttering were common, even among players using high-end PCs. While some found that adjusting graphics settings helped improve performance, doing so often degraded the game's visuals further.
However, Capcom responded to the feedback on November 1, 2024, stating: "The issue of afterimage noise occurring in certain environments when Frame Generation is enabled will be fixed in the full game, which is already in a more improved state compared to the beta test."
Gamers can expect to see these improvements soon, as Capcom has officially announced a second open beta test featuring the Bird Wyvern Gypceros and an unidentified monster. The event will run from February 7–10 and 14–17 across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms. It remains to be seen whether the latest performance enhancements will be included in this upcoming beta phase.
