PlayStation's new studio, a recent acquisition from Bungie, is reportedly developing a MOBA codenamed "Gummy Bears." This project, initially conceived at Bungie, has undergone a significant shift, moving to a new PlayStation-owned studio with approximately 40 employees.
While details remain limited, Gummy Bears is expected to deviate significantly from Bungie's previous titles, targeting a younger audience with a "cozy, vibrant, and lo-fi" aesthetic. A key differentiating factor is its unique damage system. Unlike traditional health bars, Gummy Bears will reportedly utilize a percentage-based damage system similar to Super Smash Bros., where higher percentages lead to increased knockback and potential elimination from the map.
The game is anticipated to feature the standard MOBA character classes (Attack, Defense, Support) and multiple game modes. Development, including its time at Bungie, is estimated to have spanned at least three years, though a release date remains undisclosed. The transition to the new PlayStation studio aligns with recent reports of a new Los Angeles-based development team within PlayStation. While primarily a MOBA, its Smash Bros.-inspired damage mechanic suggests a unique gameplay experience.
