It's worth recalling that Helldivers 2 became the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game ever, selling an incredible 12 million copies within just 12 weeks. This record-setting pace is unlikely to be surpassed by any other first-party Sony-developed title. Since its explosive launch, the game has faced numerous challenges: a reversal on PSN account requirements on Steam, review-bomb campaigns, and a community often clashing with the game itself over adjustments that were sometimes too aggressive or not quite enough.
Throughout these trials, Arrowhead has grappled with managing a much larger and more mainstream audience than ever before. Now, 14 months since Helldivers 2's debut on PC and PlayStation 5, Arrowhead looks back on the journey. Have they mastered the demanding world of live-service gaming? Following the Killzone collaboration, could a partnership with Warhammer 40,000 be on the horizon?
IGN had the opportunity to discuss these questions and more with Alex Bolle, the production director of Helldivers 2.
