Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) is set to impress across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms with its robust performance and stunning visuals. Dive in to discover how KCD2 performs on various systems and the settings you can customize for the best experience.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Performance Tested Across All Platforms
Photo-Realistic Look With CryEngine
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) showcases impressive performance across different platforms, backed by numerous tests and reports. Both PlayStation and Xbox consoles handle the game smoothly at 30fps and 60fps, while KCD2 leverages the PS5 Pro's capabilities for enhanced graphics. The game's photo-realistic visuals set it apart, especially given its use of CryTek's CryEngine.
KCD2 sticks with CryEngine, the same engine used in its predecessor, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 1 (KCD1). Warhorse Studios chose to stay with CryEngine due to their familiarity with it, enabling them to push the engine's capabilities further in the sequel.
According to PC Gamer, CryEngine's old-school rendering focuses heavily on performance, using fewer shaders and basic lighting compared to engines like Unreal Engine. Despite this, KCD2 achieves photo-realistic visuals thanks to its use of physically based materials. Eurogamer highlights that CryEngine’s sparse voxel octree global illumination (SVOGI) enhances indirect lighting, making elements like torchlight and metal reflections look remarkably realistic.
PlayStation And Xbox Consoles Have 30 FPS and 60 FPS Options
On PS5 and Xbox Series X, players can choose between two modes: a fidelity mode running at 30fps with a resolution of 1440p, and a performance mode at 60fps with a resolution of 1080p. The Xbox Series S, however, is limited to fidelity mode only. Conversely, the PS5 Pro offers a single mode, defaulting to 60fps at 1296p with PSSR upscaling to 4K.
Fidelity mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X enhances the visual experience by adding more detailed foliage and improved shadow rendering across terrains, making outdoor scenes more immersive and improving ambient occlusion. The PS5 Pro elevates this further, offering sharper images, enhanced ambient occlusion, better object quality, and overall superior visual fidelity.
Upscaling Is Completely Optional For PC
For PC gamers, KCD2 offers optional upscaling, aligning with typical PC game standards. PC Gamer notes that the upscaling options are limited to FSR and DLSS, with no support for XeSS for Intel cards, sharpening options, or frame generation.
Despite CryEngine's focus on performance, running KCD2 at 4K and maximum settings will still demand a lot from GPUs. Fortunately, the game is highly scalable, offering five quality presets—low, medium, high, ultra, and experimental—to help players find the optimal settings for their systems. KCD2 provides an in-depth guide on preparing your PC, including detailed system requirements for CPU, RAM, GPU, and storage.
