ASTRA: Knights of Veda Removing English Dubbing After Maintenance
To Improve Game Stability and Localizations
ASTRA: Knights of Veda, developed by FLINT, is set to remove English dubbing from the game following maintenance scheduled for January 23, 2025. This decision is part of a broader effort to enhance game stability and improve the quality of localizations. On January 20, the developers announced this language support adjustment, emphasizing their commitment to providing a smoother gaming experience.
The upcoming maintenance on January 23 will result in the removal of support for several languages, including German, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, and Italian. However, the game will continue to support Korean, English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, French, Thai, and Russian.
While English language support remains intact, the in-game English voiceovers will be removed. Post-maintenance, players outside Korea will find their In-Game Voice option automatically set to Japanese. FLINT has reassured players that this change will not impact their ability to chat in any of the previously supported languages.
Despite potential concerns from fans, FLINT is committed to enhancing the gaming experience, stating, "We will continue to do our best to provide better services and experiences for our Masters of the Book."
Other Gacha Games That Removed English Voiceovers
FLINT is not alone in this decision, as several other gacha games have also moved to remove English voice-overs. For instance, Square Enix’s War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius announced in May 2024 that they would remove English voice-overs for future content starting from Main Story Part 3, Chapter 8, and Another Story Chapter 3, Scene 7. Existing chapters will retain their English voice-overs, but new content will default to Japanese, reflecting a strategic focus on the Japanese market.
Similarly, Yostar Games’ Aether Gazer decided in February 2024 to remove all English voice-overs post the "Crepuscular Cloudsong" update due to financial difficulties. The decision was made to redirect resources towards improving gameplay, performance, and future content.
In December 2023, Amazing Seasun Games’ Snowbreak: Containment Zone also removed English voice-overs, starting with Version 1.4, after evaluating player preferences and aiming to optimize the gaming experience. New content will automatically switch to Japanese voice-over.
These decisions across various gacha games indicate a trend driven by language preferences and resource management. Prioritizing the language most used by players can enhance the gaming experience, while reallocating resources helps sustain the game's longevity and focus on aspects that players value most, such as gameplay and performance.
