A recent report by MP1st reveals details about an unannounced remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, gleaned from the portfolio of an anonymous former Virtuos Studio developer. This remake, reportedly built using Unreal Engine 5, promises a significant departure from the original.
The portfolio showcases a complete reimagining of Oblivion, encompassing overhauled mechanics. These include substantial changes to stamina management, stealth mechanics, attack blocking (drawing inspiration from Soulslike games to address the original's perceived shortcomings), archery, damage feedback, and the user interface. The damage system has been recalculated to incorporate visible reactions to attacks, while stamina is expected to be more intuitive. The UI and archery systems will also be modernized.
MP1st suggests that initial plans, hinted at in leaked Microsoft documents, may have been for a simple remaster, but the project evolved into a full remake.
While sources confirm the Oblivion remake won't appear at the upcoming Developer_Direct, rumors suggest a potential release later this year.
