Paradox Interactive CEO Admits Mistakes, Highlights Life by You Cancellation
Paradox Interactive's CEO, Fredrik Wester, recently acknowledged missteps in the company's recent financial report (July 25th), specifically citing the cancellation of the life simulation game, Life by You, as a significant error. While the company enjoyed strong financial performance thanks to established titles like Crusader Kings and Europa Universalis, Wester openly admitted that decisions made on several projects outside their core competency were incorrect.
The Life by You cancellation, a considerable setback, represented a departure from Paradox's typical strategy game focus. Despite a nearly $20 million investment and initial promise, the game ultimately failed to meet expectations, leading to its cancellation on June 17th.
Further compounding the difficulties, the release of Cities: Skylines 2 was hampered by performance problems, and Prison Architect 2 experienced repeated delays. These issues, combined with the Life by You cancellation, underscore the need for a strategic reassessment of Paradox Interactive's game development approach.
Wester emphasized the company's strong foundation built on the success of core franchises like Crusader Kings and Stellaris. By acknowledging their errors and concentrating on their strengths, Paradox Interactive aims to regain momentum and deliver high-quality gaming experiences to their players.
