Elden Ring Nightreign invites players to venture into the ever-changing realm of Limveld, where they can battle for survival solo or in teams of three. Unfortunately, pairs will need to embrace the addition of a third teammate.
In an IGN interview with director Junya Ishizaki, he explained why solos and trios became the primary gameplay modes. When questioned about the absence of a dedicated two-player option without matchmaking, Ishizaki admitted this was an oversight.
"Honestly, we didn't prioritize developing a pure duo mode during production, and we sincerely apologize," Ishizaki stated. "From the outset, we designed Elden Ring Nightreign as a three-player cooperative experience—balancing mechanics around this framework became Nightreign's foundation."
"As a gamer myself, I completely understand wanting solo play options," Ishizaki added. "We invested heavily in refining single-player viability within our systems. This focus inadvertently sidelined duo functionality, but we're evaluating potential solutions for post-launch updates."
Duo teams should prepare to welcome an unexpected ally—this random third might just become your secret weapon.
Solo adventurers needn't worry; Elden Ring Nightreign dynamically scales difficulty based on party size. According to Ishizaki, lone wolves won't face insurmountable odds.
