The upcoming vampire RPG Dawnwalker from former CD Projekt Red developers sets ambitious quality benchmarks comparable to The Witcher 3, despite its more focused scope. Here's what we know about this promising dark fantasy title from fledgling studio Rebel Wolves.
Rebel Wolves Targets AAA Standards With Compact Experience
30-40 Hour Primary Storyline
Creative director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz revealed in a Games Radar interview that while Dawnwalker represents Rebel Wolves' debut title, the team aims to match The Witcher 3's acclaimed quality standards.
When discussing industry classifications between indie and AAA, Tomaszkiewicz clarified their approach: "Quality-wise, we're absolutely targeting AAA benchmarks - this reflects our development heritage from The Witcher 3."
While Rebel Wolves operates as a new studio, its core team comprises veteran developers from CDPR's Witcher and Cyberpunk projects. The Tomaszkiewicz brothers established the studio seeking creative freedom beyond traditional AAA studio constraints.
"We're developing a more compact experience as a smaller studio's first project, but maintaining exceptional production values," Tomaszkiewicz explained. The team envisions a 30-40 hour campaign, noting game length doesn't strictly define quality: "Many acclaimed AAA titles like Call of Duty don't offer 100-hour campaigns."
Dawnwalker presents a narrative-driven sandbox RPG set in Vale Sangora's gothic realm. Players embody Coen, a peasant gifted vampiric abilities after encountering an ancient bloodlord. His quest to cure his sister's illness unfolds across this dangerous, supernatural landscape.
While no firm release date exists, Dawnwalker targets PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S platforms, with gameplay expected to debut Summer 2025.
