The highly anticipated Narnia reboot from Barbie filmmaker Greta Gerwig has secured Oscar-nominated actress Carey Mulligan for its star-studded cast.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mulligan joins previously announced actors including former 007 Daniel Craig, Sex Education's Emma Mackey, and three-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep in this fresh interpretation of C.S. Lewis' beloved fantasy world.
Gerwig retains dual creative control as both screenwriter and director for this new vision of The Chronicles of Narnia.
This adaptation will focus on the series' origin story, The Magician's Nephew - the chronological prequel to the iconic The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Mulligan, recognized with nominations from major awards bodies including the Oscars and BAFTAs, will portray Mabel Kirke, maternal figure to the story's young protagonist Digory.
Craig takes on the pivotal role of the enigmatic magician (and Digory's uncle) from whom the book derives its title. Mackey will introduce audiences to the White Witch in her younger years, while Streep lends her commanding voice to Aslan, Narnia's divine feline ruler.
This marks the latest cinematic treatment of Lewis' work following the 2005-2010 trilogy, which brought to life The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Those adaptations featured Tilda Swinton as the White Witch and Liam Neeson voicing Aslan.
Gerwig's Narnian venture follows her 2023 runaway success with Barbie, which earned eight Oscar nominations including Best Picture, along with a win for Best Original Song ("What Was I Made For?" by Billie Eilish).
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew is scheduled to transport audiences to its magical realms in 2026.
