NPIXEL has officially announced the closure of Gran Saga, concluding its brief international journey. The game will cease operations on April 30th, 2025, with in-app purchases (IAPs) and downloads already disabled. Gran Saga, which saw a successful launch in Japan in 2021, only managed to debut globally in November 2024, lasting just six months before the shutdown was announced.
The decision to close Gran Saga stems from financial instability and challenges in sustaining a viable service. Despite its initial appeal, the game struggled to carve out a space in the highly competitive global market, where established titles have already captured loyal audiences. The genre's saturation makes it tough for newcomers to succeed without offering something truly innovative. Although Gran Saga thrived in Japan, it couldn't replicate that success abroad, leading to its early closure.
This development adds Gran Saga to the list of gacha RPGs that have recently shut down, including My Hero Academia: The Strongest Hero. The mobile gaming scene is witnessing an increasing number of closures due to an oversaturated market where players tend to stick with familiar games, making it challenging for new or niche titles to endure.
Players who have made recent purchases can request refunds until May 30th. However, refunds may not be possible if the items have already been used or due to other store policies.
