Eclipse Glow Games, in a recent interview with Wccftech, revealed the inspiration behind Tides of Annihilation's Arthurian setting and London backdrop. The game's Western focus, they explained, stemmed from Tencent's strategic direction. While Black Myth: Wukong targeted the Chinese market, Tides of Annihilation was designed to appeal to a Western audience, hence the choice of Arthurian legends. The core concept evolved from the idea of knights, ultimately settling on King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table.
Arthurian Knights and a Post-Apocalyptic London
The game unfolds in a post-apocalyptic London, ravaged by an Outworld invasion. Gwendolyn, the sole human survivor, finds herself at the center of this conflict. While grounded in a modern setting, the game incorporates fantasy elements directly inspired by Arthurian myths.
Devil May Cry-Inspired Combat and Challenging Boss Battles
Tides of Annihilation's combat system draws clear inspiration from Devil May Cry, offering customizable playstyles with four weapons and over ten knight companions. Gwendolyn commands the Knights of the Round Table, battling alongside them through the ruins of London. The game boasts over 30 bosses with unique abilities, promising challenging encounters. The developers emphasized accessible controls alongside the demanding combat, catering to a broader player base.
Potential for an Anthology
Eclipse Glow Games expressed interest in expanding the franchise into an anthology, featuring diverse settings and mythologies with unique protagonists. The core concept of the Outworld invasion would remain central to the series. The success of Tides of Annihilation will determine the development of future titles.
Currently in beta, Tides of Annihilation is slated for a 2026 release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Players will follow Gwendolyn's journey as she confronts destiny and battles to save London and the interwoven fantasy realm of Avalon.
