Pokemon TCG Pocket: Trade Feature Overhaul Prompted by Player Backlash
DeNA, the developer of Pokemon TCG Pocket, has pledged to improve the game's trading feature following significant player criticism. The recently implemented trading system, released January 29th, 2025, allows players to exchange 1-4 star rarity cards from Genetic Apex and Mythical Island booster packs. However, the high cost and restrictions have sparked considerable negative feedback.
High Cost of Trade Tokens: A primary complaint centers around the exorbitant cost of trade tokens, the in-game currency required for trades. Acquiring sufficient tokens necessitates sacrificing higher-rarity cards, creating an inefficient and frustrating system. For example, trading a 4-Diamond card demands 500 tokens, while selling a 1-Star card only yields 100.
DeNA acknowledged the concerns in a February 1st, 2025, Twitter (X) post, stating they are investigating solutions. These include providing alternative methods to obtain trade tokens, potentially through in-game events. The current limitation to trading only 1-Star cards is also under review. The developers explained the initial restrictions were implemented to mitigate bot activity and multi-account abuse, aiming for a fair and enjoyable experience for all players.
Genetic Apex Booster Pack Accessibility: A separate issue arose with the release of the Space-Time Smackdown booster packs on January 29th, 2025. Some players mistakenly believed the Genetic Apex packs had been removed from the game, due to their absence from the main screen. While the Genetic Apex packs remain accessible via a less prominent "Select other booster packs" option, the poor UI design led to confusion and concern.
Players suggested improving the home screen display to clearly show all available booster packs, a change that would address the confusion and prevent similar misunderstandings in the future. While DeNA hasn't directly addressed this UI issue, the clarification should alleviate player concerns about the availability of Genetic Apex packs. The developer's commitment to addressing these issues suggests future updates will likely incorporate improvements to both the trading system and the game's user interface.
