Deltarune Chapter 4 Development Update: Almost Ready, But Not Quite!
Undertale creator Toby Fox recently shared exciting news about Deltarune's progress in his latest newsletter. While the highly anticipated Chapters 3 and 4 are slated for simultaneous release on PC, Switch, and PS4, the release date remains elusive.
Chapter 4 is nearing completion, with all maps finished and battles playable. However, Fox notes some remaining tasks: polishing several cutscenes, balancing and visually enhancing a battle, improving a background, and refining the ending sequences of two battles. Despite this, he considers Chapter 4 essentially playable, receiving positive feedback from testers.
The challenge, Fox explains, lies in the multi-platform and multilingual release. This first major paid release since Undertale demands extra care to ensure perfection. Before launch, the team must tackle key tasks: testing new functions, finalizing PC and console versions, Japanese localization, and thorough bug testing.
Chapter 3 is complete (as previously announced), and early work on Chapter 5 has even begun! While a release date remains unannounced, the newsletter offered intriguing previews: Ralsei and Rouxls dialogue, Elnina's character description, and a new item, the GingerGuard.
The extended wait since Chapter 2 has generated anticipation, fueled by Fox's confirmation that Chapters 3 and 4 combined will surpass the length of Chapters 1 and 2. Though a precise release date isn't available, Fox anticipates a smoother release schedule for future chapters once Chapters 3 and 4 are launched.
