Pokémon TCG Pocket Faces Backlash at Launch

Pokémon TCG Pocket Trading Update Faces Widespread Criticism

Pokémon TCG Pocket has finally launched its much-anticipated trading feature, but players are overwhelmingly disappointed with its restrictive implementation. Despite last week's warnings about the system's limitations from developer Creatures Inc., the actual release has sparked even greater backlash.

Community Outrage Over Trading Mechanics

The trading system requires two separate consumable items for every transaction. Players must expend both Trade Stamina (which regenerates slowly or can be purchased) and Trade Tokens - the latter introducing particularly punishing conversion rates.

For higher rarity cards (3 Diamonds and above), the token costs are staggering:

  • 120 tokens for a 3 Diamond card
  • 400 tokens for a 1 Star card
  • 500 tokens for a 4 Diamond (ex Pokémon) card

These tokens can only be obtained by permanently removing cards from collections at fractions of their trading value. For example, players must sacrifice five ex Pokémon cards just to trade for one.

"The trading system is predatory and downright greedy"

The community reaction has been scathing, with Reddit posts calling the system "a monumental failure" and "hilariously toxic." Many players note they'll need to spend dozens of minutes in menus just to complete a single trade.

Financial Motivations Apparent

Analysts suggest the restrictive design encourages continued spending in the already-profitable app (reporting $200M in first-month revenue). The system prevents trading for the rarest cards (2 Star+), forcing players to purchase packs for completion.

"They should probably remove 'Trading' from the game title"

Creatures Inc. has remained silent since launch, despite acknowledging community concerns during last week's preview. Players hope for future adjustments like token rewards from missions, though current mechanics appear focused on monetization rather than player experience.

The poorly received launch comes just before the game's next major update introducing Diamond/Pearl era Pokémon. Whether developers will address these concerns remains uncertain.
