MachineGames, the studio behind Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, has confirmed a crucial detail: players won't be able to harm dogs in the upcoming game. This decision, along with other game details, is explained below.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle: A Dog-Friendly Adventure
Indy's Affection for Canines
While many games feature violence against animals, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle breaks from this trend. Creative Director Jens Andersson of MachineGames told IGN, "Indiana Jones is a dog person." This sentiment guided the developers in creating encounters with dogs that avoid any harm, a significant departure from their previous work, such as the Wolfenstein series.
Andersson further explained, "It’s a family-friendly IP in many ways," highlighting the decision's alignment with the franchise's overall tone. Instead of harming dogs, players will find themselves employing strategies to scare them away.
Set in 1937, between Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade, the game follows Indy as he pursues stolen artifacts from Marshall College. His journey takes him across diverse locations, from the Vatican and Egyptian pyramids to the underwater temples of Sukhothai.
Indy's trusty whip will be used for both traversal and combat against human enemies, but thankfully, canine companions are safe from its reach.
