While starting with basic equipment, players unlock opportunities to acquire weapons better suited to their playstyles. This game blends roguelike and extraction elements, resulting in a unique approach to gear acquisition.

Acquiring New Weapons in Hyper Light Breaker

Exploring Overgrowths is the primary method for discovering new gear. While exploration naturally yields new items, focusing on sword or pistol icons on the map directly leads to Blades (melee) and Rails (ranged) respectively.

Blades offer varied movesets and special abilities, while Rails provide diverse ranged functionalities. Both weapon types exist in varying rarities, with gold being the most potent. Rarity directly correlates with stats, as is common in loot-based games.

To save weapons for later use, press the Cache button instead of Equip. Cached weapons can then be equipped before commencing subsequent runs by adjusting your loadout.

Obtaining New Starting Weapons

Beyond finding weapons during runs, players can purchase new starting equipment from merchants at the Cursed Outpost. Initially, only the Blades merchant is accessible. Unlocking the Rails merchant requires sufficient materials to repair their shop.

Merchants have limited stock, but their inventories refresh periodically. If initial offerings are unsatisfactory, checking back later is recommended.

Weapon Upgrades

Weapon upgrades are available from Outpost merchants, but require unlocking the upgrade function by increasing merchant affinity. This is achieved by collecting Golden Rations, a rare resource found through exploration or cycle resets. Use Golden Rations strategically due to their scarcity.

Death results in a durability loss (one pip) from equipped weapons. Repeated deaths will eventually break weapons.
