Phil Spencer Affirms Xbox's Support for Switch 2, Praises Nintendo Partnership

Author : Michael Update:Jun 03,2025

Following the announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2, it seems the collaboration between Nintendo and Xbox remains strong. Phil Spencer, the head of gaming at Microsoft, recently emphasized his commitment to the Switch platform, viewing it as an opportunity for Xbox to connect with gamers who aren’t currently part of its ecosystem.

During an interview with Variety, Spencer was questioned about potential projects specifically targeting the Nintendo Switch 2. He expressed that just as Microsoft has supported the original Switch, it aims to do the same for its successor.

“Nintendo has been an excellent partner,” Spencer stated. “It provides us with a unique avenue to reach players who aren’t on PCs or Xbox platforms. This helps us expand our community of enthusiasts for the franchises we care about, which is crucial for our ongoing investment in game development.”

“I truly value what Nintendo brings to the industry, and our continued support for each other is vital for our future,” he added.

Spencer has consistently shown enthusiasm for the Nintendo Switch 2, praising Nintendo’s innovative approach since the initial teasers. At the time, he also confirmed that Xbox would continue releasing its titles across multiple platforms, including PlayStation, Steam, and Nintendo consoles.

When asked if the Switch 2 unveiling sparked anticipation for Xbox’s upcoming console releases, Spencer maintained focus on his existing strategy.

“No. I believe everyone in this industry should concentrate on their communities and player bases,” Spencer replied. “While I admire what others achieve, I trust in our own vision.”

The Xbox chief reiterated Microsoft’s goal to deliver games across as many platforms as possible—cloud, PC, and consoles alike. Titles such as Pentiment and Obsidian’s Grounded have already appeared on Nintendo platforms, and it will be intriguing to see what Xbox offers for the Switch 2 upon its official launch.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled to release on June 5, 2025. Pre-orders are still pending, but stay tuned to our dedicated pre-order hub for updates.
