Yesterday, February 24, we reported that Assassin’s Creed Shadows had leaked online, with unauthorized streams appearing across platforms weeks ahead of its March 20 launch date.
Over the weekend, as flagged by the GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit, deleted social media posts surfaced showing premature sales of physical copies, while multiple unauthorized gameplay streams appeared on platforms including Twitch.
Publisher Ubisoft has now addressed the leak through an official post on the Assassin's Creed subreddit, confirming awareness of the situation while urging fans to avoid spoiling the experience.
"We're aware players have accessed Assassin’s Creed Shadows ahead of schedule. Our team continues finalizing patches for launch, and leaked content doesn't reflect the polished final version," Ubisoft stated.
"Premature leaks risk diminishing player excitement," the statement continued. "We sincerely ask everyone to help protect fellow fans from spoilers. We appreciate community members who are already helping safeguard the experience."
"Avoid spoilers in the shadows, and watch our official channels for surprises ahead! March 20 approaches quickly!"
The leaks represent another setback for Ubisoft's flagship franchise. The studio previously apologized for unlicensed use of historical imagery and again for cultural representation concerns regarding Shadows' depiction of Japan.
Originally slated for November, Assassin's Creed Shadows underwent multiple delays, first to February 14 then finally landing on March 20. The troubled publisher faces significant pressure following disappointing sales of recent titles and growing investor concerns.
