Omori's European publisher, Meridiem Games, has announced the cancellation of the game's physical release for Nintendo Switch and PS4 in Europe. This decision has left many fans disappointed, especially those eagerly awaiting the game's availability in multiple European languages.
A Series of Unfortunate Delays
Omori's physical release in Europe faced numerous setbacks. Initially slated for March 2023, the release was postponed to December of the same year, then to March 2024, and finally to January 2025. However, Meridiem Games cited technical difficulties with multilingual European localization as the reason for the cancellation, as shared on their Twitter(X) account.
When pressed for more details about the localization issues, the publisher could only reiterate the information provided in their initial announcement. This lack of transparency has added to fans' frustration.
The repeated delays and eventual cancellation have been particularly disheartening for European fans, as this would have marked the first time Omori was officially available in Spanish and other European languages. Those still wishing to own a physical copy of Omori for Switch or PS4 will need to import a US version.
Omori is a captivating RPG that follows the journey of Sunny, a young boy grappling with isolation after a traumatic event. The narrative shifts between the real world and Sunny's dream world, where he assumes the identity of Omori. Originally launched on PC in December 2020, the game later expanded to Switch, PS4, and Xbox in 2022. However, due to controversy surrounding an inappropriate T-shirt design sold by OMOCAT in 2013, the game was removed from the Xbox platform, leaving it inaccessible to Xbox players.
