In a recent Gamescom interview with IGN, Mortal Kombat co-founder Ed Boon delved into how the upcoming game, Mortal Kombat 1, will distinguish between the characters Omni-Man and Homelander. Boon emphasized the importance of giving each character a unique feel, addressing fans' concerns about potential similarities in combat styles between these two powerful heroes.
Boon revealed that the development team at NetherRealm Studios has been granted creative freedom to explore diverse ideas for these characters. The goal is to avoid overlap in abilities, particularly steering away from both characters sharing common Superman-esque powers like heat vision. "Obviously, we could do anything with the characters, but I don’t think we’re going to have both Homelander and Omni-Man have heat vision or something like that," Boon stated.
To further differentiate Omni-Man and Homelander, the team has drawn inspiration from the heroes' actions in their respective shows, translating these into distinct Fatalities and main attacks. Boon assured fans that players will experience two very different heroes, countering assumptions that the characters might feel too similar. "They’re definitely going to play differently. The main attacks are going to really differentiate them, but we’re definitely aware of the assumption that some people were making on, ‘Oh, they’re just going to be the same characters,'" he explained.
