As anticipated, EA is actively considering the Nintendo Switch 2 as a key platform for its future titles. During a recent financial earnings call, CEO Andrew Wilson confirmed the company’s interest in bringing its major franchises to Nintendo’s upcoming console. When directly asked about EA’s plans for the Switch 2, Wilson expressed optimism, highlighting several of the company’s flagship series as natural fits for the new hardware.
Wilson specifically spotlighted EA’s powerhouse sports titles—Madden NFL and FC—as franchises poised to gain “real energy” on the Switch 2. He also emphasized The Sims as a strong contender, referencing the success of the My Sims Cozy Bundle, which significantly outperformed expectations. Notably, 50% of the players who engaged with that bundle were new to EA, underscoring the potential for player acquisition on Nintendo’s platform.
“Anytime a new console comes into the marketplace that's of a benefit to us, it gives us the ability to access and acquire new players,” Wilson stated. “Typically, we've had franchises perform very well on Nintendo platforms. Certainly our expectation is that products like FC and Madden and others might find real energy on the platform as they have done in the past.”
He added, “When you think about something like The Sims and the My Sims cozy bundle, which performed well ahead of our expectations, 50% of all players were new to EA. That represents a great opportunity for us. So again, nothing in our models at this juncture, but our expectation is that anytime a great new console comes in the marketplace that gives us access to new players and new communities, that we have the IP that will benefit from that.”
While it’s no surprise that Madden and FC are expected on Switch 2, fans are eager to know what version of these games they’ll receive. Historically, EA has released “legacy” editions of its FIFA series on the original Switch, but with the FC rebrand, the company has worked toward feature parity across platforms. Given the Switch 2’s enhanced hardware capabilities, there’s hope that FC 26 on the new console could closely mirror the experience on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
With Nintendo now officially announcing the Switch 2, the game lineup is starting to take shape. Multiple third-party developers have signaled support. Firaxis, the studio behind Civilization 7, described the console’s rumored Joy-Con mouse functionality as “definitely intriguing.” Meanwhile, French publisher Nacon—known for titles like Greedfall 2, Test Drive Unlimited, and RoboCop: Rogue City—has confirmed it has Switch 2 titles in the pipeline. Additionally, the long-awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong is strongly rumored to launch on the new console.
On the first-party front, Nintendo is reportedly developing a new Mario Kart title. More details are expected during an upcoming Nintendo Direct in April, which could further solidify the Switch 2’s position as a must-have platform for both casual and competitive gamers.
