Unveiling Pokémon TCG's Paralyzed Pocket: Cards Exposed

Author : Emma Update:Feb 01,2025

This guide explores the Paralyze effect in Pokémon TCG Pocket, detailing its mechanics, counters, and optimal deck building strategies.

What is Paralyzed in Pokémon TCG Pocket?

Paralyzed Effect

The Paralyzed status condition immobilizes the opponent's Active Pokémon for a single turn, preventing attacks and retreats. This effect automatically dissipates at the start of the opponent's next turn after their Checkup phase.

Paralyzed vs. Asleep

Both Paralyzed and Asleep prevent attacks and retreats. However, Paralyzed resolves automatically, while Asleep requires a coin flip or strategic counterplay (like evolution or forced retreat) to cure.

Paralyzed in Pokémon Pocket vs. Physical PTCG

Unlike the physical Pokémon TCG, where cards like Full Heal remove Paralyze, Pokémon TCG Pocket currently lacks direct counter cards. The core mechanic—inability to attack or retreat for one turn—remains consistent.

Pokémon with Paralyze Abilities

Pokémon with Paralyze

Currently, only three Genetic Apex cards inflict Paralyze: Pincurchin, Elektross, and Articuno. Each relies on a coin flip, making it a chance-based effect rather than a guaranteed strategy.

Curing Paralyzed

Curing Paralyzed

Four methods exist to remove the Paralyzed status:

  1. Time: The effect ends automatically at the start of your next turn.
  2. Evolution: Evolving the Paralyzed Pokémon instantly cures it.
  3. Retreat: Retreating the Pokémon removes the effect (as Bench Pokémon cannot have Special Conditions). Cards like Koga can facilitate this.
  4. Support Cards: Currently, only Koga offers direct counterplay, but only under specific conditions (Weezing or Muk).

Optimal Paralyze Decks

Paralyze Deck Example

Paralyze alone is not a robust deck archetype. Combining it with Asleep, however, creates a powerful synergy. An Articuno & Frosmoth deck leveraging both conditions, along with Wigglytuff ex, offers a strong foundation.

Sample Paralyze-Asleep Deck List

Card Quantity
Wigglypuff ex 2
Jigglypuff 2
Snom 2
Frosmoth 2
Articuno 2
Misty 2
Sabrina 2
X Speed 2
Professor's Research 2
Poke Ball 2

This enhanced strategy utilizes the combined effects of both Paralyze and Asleep for a more reliable and effective deck.
