Keanu Reeves has shared an exciting update on the long-awaited sequel to the 2005 cult classic, Constantine. The actor, who portrayed the iconic occult detective and exorcist John Constantine in the original film, has confirmed that a script for Constantine 2 is now in the works. This development comes after over a decade of fans and Reeves himself expressing interest in a follow-up to the DC Comics adaptation.
In a recent interview with Inverse, Reeves revealed that he and the team have finally pitched a story to DC Studios, which has been approved. "We've been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, ‘Okay,’" Reeves stated. "So, we're going to try and write a script."

While this news is promising, it's important to note that there's no guarantee that Constantine 2 will be greenlit by DC Studios co-chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran. The project is not yet confirmed in the rebooted DCU, and neither Gunn nor Safran have mentioned it as a possibility. Thus, the sequel remains on the edge of becoming a reality.
Reeves also teased that if Constantine 2 does get made, it will be set in the same world as the original film. "We're not going off that," he assured fans, before humorously adding, "John Constantine's going to be tortured even more."
This update follows comments from producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who in September revealed to ComicBook that a script for Constantine 2 was already in his inbox. However, he admitted to being too scared to read it due to his high hopes for the project. "You know it's in my inbox right now, funny enough," he said. "I'm too scared to read it, though, I want it to be good so bad. I’ll probably read it in the next few days, when I get on an airplane."
