The PMRC Rondo Cup 2025 concluded this past weekend, with team Yangon Galacticos emerging victorious. The team secured the win through their impressive points lead, earning them the lion's share of the $20,000 prize pool sponsored by PUBG.
The tournament unfolded on PUBG's latest and largest map to date, Rondo. This new battleground hosted 16 teams, all of whom qualified through various tournaments such as D'Xavier at PMSL SEA Spring, Rangers at PMCL Spring, and R3GICIDE at PMSL CSA Fall.
Yangon Galacticos' triumph came under the newly introduced SMASH format rules, which required teams to accumulate over 30 points and then secure a victory in a different match to claim the title. However, since no team met these criteria after six matches, the victory was awarded to Yangon Galacticos due to their overwhelming points lead.
With HORAA Esports and Bigetron Esports securing second and third places respectively, the Rondo Cup has undoubtedly been a success for PUBG Mobile and their ambitious esports initiatives that have been expanding since 2024.
Interestingly, the first tournament to implement the SMASH rule did not see a winner emerge via this method, adding an ironic twist to the event. Whether the SMASH format will return in future tournaments will depend on the organizers' assessment of its impact on promoting skilled and entertaining gameplay.
