World of Warcraft Patch 11.1: A Tribute to Mats Steen and Undermine's New Content
World of Warcraft's upcoming Patch 11.1 is shaping up to be a significant update, introducing new content in Undermine and a touching tribute to the late Mats Steen. Dataminers have uncovered evidence of Lord Ibelin Redmoore, an NPC directly inspired by Steen's iconic World of Warcraft character. This addition is a heartwarming nod to the player whose life is documented in The Remarkable Life of Ibelin.
The patch, expected around February 25th, will bring fresh adventures to the Goblin city of Undermine. However, Lord Ibelin Redmoore stands out as a separate addition, unrelated to the Undermine storyline. This NPC model, bearing the title "Private Investigator," reflects Steen's celebrated roleplaying career as a detective operating in and around Stormwind. The high-fidelity character model mirrors the one seen in the documentary, a fitting tribute given Steen's passing in 2014.
Lord Ibelin Redmoore's In-Game Presence
Steen, through his character Ibelin, was a renowned roleplayer and member of the Starlight guild. His in-game detective work fostered numerous interactions with other players. While his exact in-game function remains a mystery, speculation suggests he might appear in Stormwind taverns, or perhaps follow a route mirroring Steen's real-life travels within the game world. The possibility of his appearance on the Public Test Realm (PTR) before the official release adds to the anticipation.
This marks the third tribute to Ibelin within World of Warcraft. Previous tributes include a replica of his real-life gravesite and a charity bundle featuring a fox pet and backpack benefiting CureDuchenne. These gestures underscore the profound impact Steen had on the WoW community. Patch 11.1's inclusion of Lord Ibelin Redmoore is a testament to his enduring legacy within the game.
