The Witcher 4: everything we know so far

The Witcher saga continues! Nearly a decade after the critically acclaimed Witcher 3, the first trailer for Witcher 4 has dropped, introducing Ciri as the protagonist.

As Geralt's adopted daughter, Ciri steps into the spotlight as the Witcher's trilogy concludes. The teaser shows Ciri intervening in a village's disturbing ritual—a young woman offered as a sacrifice to a monster. Ciri's intervention reveals a far more complex situation than initially apparent.

While no official release date is set, considering the development timelines of Witcher 3 (3.5-4 years) and Cyberpunk 2077, a 3-4 year wait for Witcher 4 seems plausible, given the early stage of production.

Platform specifics remain unannounced, but given the anticipated release window, a current-generation console focus is likely. However, no platform exclusivity has been confirmed. We expect simultaneous releases on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. A Switch port, while possible on a future iteration of the console, seems unlikely given Witcher 3's demanding nature.

Gameplay details are scarce, but the CGI trailer hints at familiar elements: potions, Signs, and phrases. A new addition might be Ciri's chain, used for both trapping monsters and channeling magic.

Voice actor Doug Cockle confirmed Geralt's involvement, albeit in a supporting role. The trailer includes Geralt's voice, fueling speculation of a mentor-like function for the veteran Witcher.
