According to a recent report from Bloomberg, Warner Bros. has canceled an unannounced paid DLC for the popular game, Hogwarts Legacy. The planned expansion was set to be released this year alongside a "Definitive Edition" of the game. However, the project was scrapped this week due to concerns that the content did not justify the price being considered, as per Bloomberg's sources. Warner Bros. declined to comment on the matter.
This decision comes amidst Warner Bros.' ongoing restructuring of its gaming division, prompted by financial challenges. Earlier this year, the company made significant moves including the cancellation of a planned Wonder Woman game and the closure of the studio behind it, Monolith Productions, as well as WB San Diego and MultiVersus studio Player First Games. Additionally, Warner Bros. conducted layoffs at Rocksteady in September of the previous year.
Despite the cancellation of the Hogwarts Legacy DLC, Warner Bros. continues to emphasize the importance of the Harry Potter franchise and Hogwarts Legacy itself. The company has reiterated that a sequel to the game is a top priority, aligning with their strategy to focus on fewer but larger franchises. The original Hogwarts Legacy has achieved remarkable success, selling over 30 million copies.
