Since *Fields of Mistria* entered Early Access on Steam, the Deep Woods area has been marked on the town map, but it remained inaccessible until the game's March 2025 update. Here's a comprehensive guide on how to access the Deep Woods and locate Caldarus in *Fields of Mistria*.
How to Unlock the Deep Woods in Fields of Mistria
Unlocking the Deep Woods area involves breaking the Fire Seal and using the Dragon’s Breath spell to clear the vines blocking the entrance. Start by collecting four items and placing them on the Priestess’ Fire Seal altar at Floor 60 in the mines: a Faceted Rock Gem, a Rockroot, an Emerald, and a Sealing Scroll. The first three items are available between floors 50 and 59, while obtaining the Sealing Scroll requires teamwork with Juniper and Balor.
To help Balor secure the Sealing Scroll, deposit the following items in the bin by his wagon:
- x10 Silver Ingots
- x10 Rubies
- x10 Sapphires
- x10 Emeralds
After meeting these requirements, speak to Balor again. He'll inform you that the scroll will be ready the next day, allowing you to complete the offering.
Breaking the Fire Seal typically results in a conversation with the mysterious mines Priestess, signaling the unlocking of a new biome. However, this time, the scenario deviates as the Priestess urges you to leave before the Sealing Scroll traps you inside. With your health low, calling for help summons Caldarus, who appears in his human form and retreats to his temple in the Deep Woods to regain his strength.
Caldarus leaves you with the Dragon’s Breath spell, which you can use to burn away the vines blocking the Deep Woods entrance. This spell also unlocks other previously inaccessible areas on the map. To use it, equip Dragon’s Breath from the pause menu and activate it in front of the area's entrance to permanently unlock the Deep Woods and other areas.

How to Find Caldarus
After breaking the Fire Seal, locate Caldarus inside his temple in the Deep Woods, north of the Eastern Road on your map. Use the Dragon’s Breath spell to access the area, and find Caldarus' location marked on your map like other NPCs. He's in the northeast corner of the area.
To reach him, enter the Deep Woods, head right, and use your axe to chop down the stump blocking your path. Continue north to reach the temple where Caldarus awaits.
Once the Deep Woods are unlocked, you can use the Dragon Statue on your farm to fast travel there for just 10 Essence, saving time compared to traveling on foot or horseback. You can also interact with Caldarus through his statue in spirit.
