It's a day filled with exciting announcements, and among them is the confirmation that Tencent-owned Polaris Quest's upcoming open-world RPG, Light of Motiram, is set to make its way to mobile devices. This news follows the reveal of Project Mugen's official title, marking a significant period for gaming enthusiasts.
According to insights shared by the studio on Chinese social media, as reported by Gematsu, Light of Motiram is not only slated for release on Epic Games and Steam but also on PlayStation 5 and, ambitiously, on mobile platforms. Given the game's extensive feature list and impressive visual fidelity, its arrival on mobile is indeed a bold move.
So, what exactly is Light of Motiram? Describing it is no easy task. As I delved into the store page, my thoughts flitted from one genre to another. It's an open-world RPG, reminiscent of Genshin Impact, yet it also incorporates base-building elements akin to Rust. The presence of giant mechanical animals evokes memories of Horizon Zero Dawn, and the ability to train and customize these creatures adds a touch of Palworld to the mix.
-and the kitchen sinkOne way to counter accusations of borrowing too heavily from other games (a sentiment Horizon fans have expressed) is to throw in everything and the kitchen sink. It's a surprising yet impressive strategy, and I must admit, it piques my curiosity. However, I'm also skeptical about whether a game with such high visual standards and complex systems can seamlessly transition across multiple platforms.
Currently, it appears that a mobile beta for Light of Motiram is in development. We'll have to wait and see how Tencent and Polaris Quest manage to fit all these elements onto a smartphone.
