Hello gaming enthusiasts! Welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 29th, 2024. Today's update is packed with new game releases, forming the main focus of this Thursday's column, as usual. We'll also explore a significant number of new sales. Let's dive into the games!
Featured New Releases
Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club ($49.99)
The Famicom Detective Club returns after a long hiatus! This new installment stays true to the original games, both in its strengths and weaknesses. A fresh mystery awaits, presented in a style reminiscent of the recent Switch remakes. Can you solve the latest string of murders? My review is coming soon.
Gundam Breaker 4 ($59.99)
Mikhail's comprehensive review provides a detailed look at Gundam Breaker 4's gameplay and Switch performance. In short: build and battle Gunpla! While the Switch port naturally lags behind other versions, it's still a satisfying experience if it's your only option. Read Mikhail's excellent review for the full scoop.
Shadow of the Ninja – Reborn ($19.99)
Tengo Project continues its impressive streak of remakes. Following successful revivals of 16-bit classics, they now tackle an 8-bit title. Expect a more significant departure from the original than in their previous work. However, fans of classic-style action-platformers will find much to enjoy. My review drops early next week.
Valfaris: Mecha Therion ($19.99)
This Valfaris sequel offers a surprising genre shift. Instead of the original's gameplay, you get a 2.5D side-scrolling shooter. While the change may surprise some, it's a solid entry in the genre. My review is on the way!
Nour: Play With Your Food ($9.99)
I'm not entirely sure what to make of this one, but the food imagery is stunning. Is it about photography? Hidden objects? Perhaps Mikhail will shed some light on it.
Monster Jam Showdown ($49.99)
For monster truck enthusiasts, Monster Jam Showdown delivers. Featuring both local and online multiplayer, plus various game modes. While reception on other platforms was mixed, it's a solid choice for fans of the genre.
WitchSpring R ($39.99)
This appears to be a remake of the original WitchSpring, a mobile title often compared to the Atelier series. At this price point, however, it's closer to a full-fledged Atelier game, making its value proposition a bit less clear. Still, it's visually the most impressive WitchSpring yet.
Depths of Sanity ($19.99)
An underwater exploration game with a fantastical horror twist. Investigate your missing crew's fate in a large, perilous underwater world filled with combat. Well-received on other platforms, this one should find a home on Switch.
Voltaire: The Vegan Vampire ($19.99)
A farming and action game where a vegan vampire son rebels against his neck-biting father. While I'm personally a bit tired of the genre, those with more enthusiasm for farming sims might enjoy this.
Marble Abduction! Patti Hattu ($11.79)
A marble roller game with 70 levels and 80 marbles to collect. Features secret items and challenges. If you enjoy fast-paced marble rolling, this one's for you.
Leo: The Firefighter Cat ($24.99)
A kid-friendly firefighting game with 20 missions. A different take on the firefighting genre, possibly appealing to a younger audience.
Gori: Cuddly Carnage ($21.99)
A grotesque action game starring a hoverboarding cat. While the core gameplay is reportedly decent, the Switch version suffers from technical issues affecting the overall experience.
Arcade Archives Finalizer Super Transformation ($7.99)
A 1985 Konami vertical shooter featuring a transforming robot protagonist. A charming, retro shooter experience.
EGGCONSOLE Xanadu Scenario II PC-8801mkIISR ($6.49)
An early expansion pack with new content for Xanadu. Features music by the legendary Yuzo Koshiro.
The Backrooms: Survival ($10.99)
A horror/survival/roguelite game ideal for online multiplayer (up to 10 players). The solo experience is more niche due to its repetitive nature.
Can of Wormholes ($19.99)
A clever puzzle game where you're a sentient tin can battling worms. 100 handcrafted puzzles keep things fresh.
Ninja I & II ($9.99)
Two NES-style microgames featuring ninjas, designed for competitive local multiplayer.
Dice Make 10! ($3.99)
A surprisingly fun dice puzzle game with two modes: falling blocks and a wood-block-style placement mode. The goal is to create rows/columns adding up to multiples of ten.
