Nintendo Switch 2: Unveiled!

Nintendo Switch 2 Direct: April 2nd, 2025

Following months of speculation, Nintendo has officially announced the Nintendo Switch 2. A brief teaser trailer showcased a refined design while maintaining the hybrid functionality of its predecessor.

The teaser highlighted a larger screen, a more robust kickstand, and magnetically attaching Joy-Cons – a significant change from the original Switch's rail system. An additional USB-C port was also confirmed.

Backward compatibility is a key feature. Nintendo confirmed that both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games will be playable, although some titles may have limited or no support. Specific titles will be detailed later on the Nintendo website. Nintendo Switch Online functionality will also continue on the Switch 2.

While no exclusive titles have been officially announced, the teaser hinted at a new Mario Kart installment, possibly Mario Kart 9. Rumors also suggest Gotham Knights may be coming to the Switch 2, but this remains unconfirmed. A dedicated Nintendo Direct on April 2nd, 2025, will provide further details.

Hands-On Experience: Spring 2025

Nintendo is hosting "Nintendo Switch 2 Experience" events in major cities worldwide, allowing fans a hands-on preview.

Registration opens January 17th, 2025, at 12:00 P.M. PT / 2:00 P.M. CT / 3:00 P.M. ET, closing January 26th, 2025, at 11:59 P.M. local time for each location. Selection is random, and a Nintendo Account is required.
