"Switch 2 Launch Games Predictions"

Author : Connor Update:Apr 03,2025

With the highly anticipated release of the Nintendo Switch 2 on the horizon, gamers are buzzing with excitement about what titles might be available on launch day. Although an official lineup hasn't been announced yet, let's dive into some educated guesses and hopeful predictions for the new console's launch titles.

3 ImagesWhile it's a long shot to expect all of these games to be ready at launch, even a few of them would promise an exciting start for the Switch 2. Here’s what we think (or rather, hope) Nintendo has planned for the big day.

Mario Kart 9

It's been over a decade since Mario Kart 8 debuted on the Wii U, and with its Deluxe version and numerous DLCs on the Switch, it boasts an impressive 96 circuits. This game has not only been a bestseller on both consoles but has set a high bar for the genre. With rumors swirling about a "new twist" in development since 2022, Mario Kart 9 could be a game-changer. We're eagerly anticipating innovative features that could redefine the series, and a launch alongside the Switch 2 would make it a must-have title.

New 3D Super Mario

Given the legacy of Super Mario 64 and Mario Galaxy, it's surprising the Switch only got Super Mario Odyssey in 2017 and a re-release of Super Mario 3D World. After such a long wait, a new 3D Mario game at the Switch 2's launch would be a dream come true. We're hoping for a fresh platformer filled with inventive levels, new abilities, and plenty of collectibles. A simultaneous release with Mario Kart 9 would showcase Nintendo's commitment to its flagship series, but even a staggered release would be welcome.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

Metroid fans have been patiently waiting for Metroid Prime 4 since its announcement in 2017. After a development shift to Retro Studios and a gameplay reveal in 2024, the newly titled Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has fans eagerly anticipating its release. The smooth gameplay seen in trailers hints at a possible launch on the Switch 2, making it a strong contender for a day-one title.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom Enhanced

The original Switch's standout titles, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, are likely candidates for the Switch 2. We're hoping for backward compatibility with a performance boost, but enhanced versions that leverage the Switch 2's rumored power would be even better. Imagine exploring Hyrule in stunning 4K with no frame rate issues.

Ring Fit Adventure 2

Nintendo often includes a quirky game at console launches, and Ring Fit Adventure was a surprise hit on the Switch. With over 15 million copies sold, a sequel could showcase the new console's innovative features. A launch title that combines fitness with gaming could be a unique selling point for the Switch 2.

Resident Evil 4 Remake

While the original Switch couldn't handle the graphical demands of the Resident Evil 4 remake, the Switch 2 might be up to the task. Launching with such a critically acclaimed title would not only showcase the console's capabilities but also bring a beloved horror classic back to Nintendo platforms.

Doom: The Dark Ages

Though a bit of a stretch, Doom: The Dark Ages could find its way to the Switch 2, given the success of previous Doom titles on the original Switch. With Microsoft's openness to multi-platform releases, this could be a thrilling addition to the launch lineup, perfect for gamers looking to "rip and tear" on the go.

The Haunted Chocolatier

Stardew Valley's success on the Switch makes The Haunted Chocolatier, the next game from ConcernedApe, a promising candidate for the Switch 2. This unique blend of chocolate shop simulation and action-RPG with ghostly elements could be a perfect fit for the new console. While a launch day release might be optimistic, a launch year window seems more feasible.

Earthblade

As a follow-up to the beloved indie hit Celeste, Earthblade from Extremely OK Games could be a fantastic addition to the Switch 2's launch lineup. With its stunning pixel art and "2D explor-action" gameplay, a 2025 release aligns well with the new console's debut, making it a hopeful inclusion.
