DC Comics has announced Superman Unlimited, a new monthly series launching in May 2025, marking the return of Marvel Comics veteran Dan Slott to DC. Slott, renowned for his work on titles like The Amazing Spider-Man, She-Hulk, and Fantastic Four, will be writing the series. While he contributed to DC earlier in his career with works like Arkham Asylum: Living Hell and Batman Adventures, he's been exclusively with Marvel for the past two decades.
Superman Unlimited pairs Slott with artist Rafael Albuquerque (American Vampire) and colorist Marcelo Maiolo. Slott stated, “He’s the first and greatest superhero, and I’ve been waiting my whole life to tell stories about him…Rafael Albuquerque and I are going to take him—and you—to places you’ll want to escape to every month. Millions of surprising ideas for Superman, Lois, the supporting cast, classic rogues, and all-new friends and foes too.” The series promises a fresh take, even for longtime fans.
The series introduces a perilous new reality for Superman. A Kryptonite asteroid shower leaves the planet awash in Green K, empowering enemies like Intergang with weapons exploiting Superman's weakness. This forces Superman to develop new technology and fighting strategies. Simultaneously, Clark Kent faces a transformed Daily Planet, now a global multimedia giant after merging with Morgan Edge's Galaxy Communications.
DC group editor Paul Kaminski compares Superman Unlimited's impact to that of Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness's Superman/Batman in the early 2000s. He describes it as a story of “unlimited Super-Villains…Green K is everywhere. Superman is going to need to get to work and adapt to survive.” Kaminski highlights the contrast with the concurrently running Justice League Unlimited, focusing on heroes, while Superman Unlimited emphasizes the threat of Kryptonite-enhanced villains.
A 10-page prelude story will appear in DC All In 2025 FCBD Special Edition #1 on May 3, 2025, followed by Superman Unlimited #1 on May 21, preceding the July 11 release of James Gunn's Superman film.
