The cameras are now rolling on DC's highly anticipated film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. To mark this exciting milestone, DC boss James Gunn shared the first glimpse of Milly Alcock in her role as Supergirl... sort of.
In a celebratory post on Bluesky, Gunn announced that filming has officially begun for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, featuring Milly Alcock from House of the Dragon as Kara Zor-El, also known as Supergirl. Alongside this announcement, he shared a photo of Alcock seated in her actor's chair, offering fans a technical first look at the character.
Gunn expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "Thrilled to see camera roll at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on Supergirl, with Craig Gillespie at the helm and the phenomenal Milly Alcock as our Kara Zor-El." This confirms that Gillespie, renowned for directing Cruella and I, Tonya, will be directing the film, as previously reported in April.
While specific details about the movie remain under wraps, it's known that the film draws heavily from the acclaimed graphic novel of the same name by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Nogueira. The story follows an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll who recruits Supergirl to avenge her father's murder at the hands of the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. This compelling narrative earned a nomination for "Best Limited Series" at the 2022 Eisner Awards and is highly recommended for those yet to experience it.
The cast includes Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye, David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother, and Jason Momoa, who has been recast in the DC universe as Lobo.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow marks the second film in the new DC universe, following James Gunn's Superman, which is set to hit theaters this summer. Other projects in development include The Batman Part II (its connection to Gunn's movie-verse remains unclear) and a rumored Clayface movie directed by Mike Flanagan.
