One such quest, "For Science!", begins with a meeting between Skif and Yaryk Mongoose. Mongoose tasks Skif with activating a second measuring device atop a silo, a seemingly simple objective with rewarding consequences.
How to Start the "For Science!" Side Quest in Stalker 2
Initiate "For Science!" by finding Yaryk Mongoose in the Central Elevator area of the Chemical Plant. You'll likely hear him contact Skif via radio, prompting your arrival. Once inside the Central Elevator location, navigate left, past the conveyor belts, and ascend the rusted stairs. Mongoose awaits on the first floor; simply vault the railing to reach him. He'll explain the need to activate a second device atop a nearby silo, and accepting his request begins the quest.
Reaching the Top of the Silo During "For Science!"
After speaking with Mongoose, climb to the building's roof. Deal with any rodents you encounter, then exit through a broken window and descend a ladder to an external walkway. From there, jump to the silo's walkway. Equip your bolt-action weapon; electro anomalies await. Proceed left along the silo's top to find and activate the measuring device. Activating it triggers a Bloodsucker attack. Eliminate them or evade them to reach Mongoose.
Confronting Yaryk Mongoose
Upon returning to Mongoose, he'll explain the experiment's unintended consequences. You can choose to kill him for endangering you or accept the reward and depart. Neither choice significantly impacts the game's progression. Killing Mongoose allows you to loot the Malachite pass; however, choosing the peaceful option rewards you with the pass and some coupons. The Malachite pass grants access to the STC Malachite base, unless you've already gained entry through the main storyline.
