Marvel's Spider-Man 2: PC Release and PSN Requirement
January 30, 2025: The PC Launch Date
Announced at New York Comic Con, the PC version, developed and optimized by Nixxes Software in collaboration with Insomniac Games, promises a top-tier experience. Expect ray tracing, ultrawide monitor support, and extensive graphical customization options. While DualSense features won't be replicated, keyboard and mouse players will find it a perfect fit.
"Bringing the Spider-Man games to PC with Insomniac and Marvel Games has been fantastic," stated Nixxes' Community Manager, Julian Huijbregts. Insomniac's Mike Fitzgerald added that the PC port will feel "at home" on the platform.
The PC release includes all post-launch content from the PS5 version: twelve new suits (including Symbiote styles), New Game+, Ultimate Levels, new time-of-day options, post-game achievements, enhanced Photo Mode, and more for Digital Deluxe Edition owners. However, no new story content will be added.
PSN Account Requirement: A Point of Contention
A significant drawback is the requirement of a PlayStation Network (PSN) account, mirroring a concerning trend in recent PlayStation PC ports. This excludes players in regions lacking PSN access, raising concerns about accessibility. While Sony previously reversed a similar policy for Helldivers 2, the impact on players remains.
This requirement applies to other single-player titles like God of War Ragnarök, Horizon Forbidden West, and Ghost of Tsushima, prompting questions about the necessity of linking Steam and PSN accounts for offline experiences.
The PC launch of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 completes the trilogy's PC presence, showcasing Sony's expansion beyond PlayStation. While the PSN requirement needs addressing, the move to bring these exclusive titles to PC is a positive step. Game8 awarded the PS5 version an 88, praising it as a superb sequel.
