God of War fans have unleashed their fury, reportedly review-bombing God of War Ragnarok on Steam due to Sony's contentious PSN account requirement.
God of War Ragnarok PC Launches to Mixed Rating on Steam
GoW Fans Unleash Chaos Over PSN Requirement
Following its recent launch on PC via Steam, God of War Ragnarok has received a 'mixed' user score. A significant number of fans have been review-bombing the game in response to Sony's unpopular PlayStation Network (PSN) account requirement for playing the title. Released for PC just last week, God of War Ragnarok currently holds a 6/10 rating on the platform.
Sony's decision to mandate a PSN account for playing the single-player action-adventure game on PC has left many fans frustrated and appears to have spurred the negative review-bombing campaign on Steam.
While many players have left negative reviews, some have noted that they were able to enjoy the game without linking a PSN account. One player shared, "I understand the frustration over the PlayStation account requirement. It's frustrating when developers add online features to a single-player game. However, I could play without logging in, which is confusing. It's unfortunate because these reviews might deter people from experiencing an amazing game."
Another player expressed their disappointment, stating, "The PSN account requirement dampens the excitement. I launched the game and logged in, but it got stuck on a black screen. It even shows I played for 1 hour and 40 minutes, which is absurd."
Despite the backlash, some players have left positive reviews, praising their experience with the game and attributing the negative reviews solely to Sony's decision. "The story is as compelling as expected. The negative reviews are mostly about the PSN requirement. Sony needs to reconsider this policy. Otherwise, the game is exceptional on PC," one player remarked.
Sony faced a similar issue with Helldivers 2 earlier this year when it required a PSN account to play the shooter developed by Arrowhead Game Studios. In response to widespread backlash, Sony reversed its decision and removed the PSN account linking requirement for Helldivers 2.
