Get Ready to Race! Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Unveils New Features and Closed Network Test
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, the upcoming kart racer from Sega and Sonic Team, promises the biggest roster yet, featuring iconic characters from the Sonic and Sega universes. A recent PlayStation.blog post revealed exciting new gameplay mechanics and features.
A Massive Cast of Characters
The game boasts a confirmed 23 characters at launch, with more to come. The reveal trailer showcases a star-studded lineup including Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, the Sonic Riders team (Jet, Wave, Storm), the Deadly Six (Zavok, Zazz), Team Dark (Shadow, Rouge, E-123 Omega), Dr. Eggman and his creations (Egg Pawn, Metal Sonic), and the Chaotix (Vector, Charmy, Espio). Rounding out the impressive roster are Blaze, Silver, Cream, and Big.
CrossWorlds: Dynamic Racing Across Multiple Dimensions
Prepare for a thrilling ride! Travel Rings transport racers between diverse CrossWorlds in real-time, dramatically altering races with new environments, obstacles, and even giant monsters. Expect 24 main tracks and 15 unique CrossWorlds, each offering a theme park-like experience. Dynamic tracks, inspired by Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, change with each lap, demanding constant adaptation.
Customization, Extreme Gear, and Gadgets
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds offers extensive vehicle customization, allowing players to modify their racers' front and rear parts, wheels, colors, tire and cockpit glows, and more. Players can also equip 23 different gadgets to fine-tune their racing style. The return of Extreme Gear from Sonic Riders adds a boost-based hoverboard racing option to the mix, expanding the gameplay possibilities with 45 unique vehicles. Takashi Iizuka, Sonic Creative Officer, calls it "a great culmination of all the Sonic Racing series games to date."
Closed Network Test: Get in on the Action!
A closed network test, exclusively for PlayStation 5, is scheduled for February 21-24, 2025. Registration is open from February 12-19, 2025. Completing the post-test survey earns participants an exclusive in-game sticker and title.
