EA and Maxis are celebrating the 25th anniversary of The Sims franchise with a fantastic surprise for fans. Both The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 are now available on PC once again, packaged into two Legacy Collections and the special The Sims 25th Birthday Bundle.
EA has announced the launch of The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection, which are now available for purchase on PC. You can buy them separately or get both in The Sims 25th Birthday Bundle for just $40.
These collections are packed with content. The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 come with all their expansions and almost all stuff packs. The only notable exception is the IKEA Home Stuff pack from 2008, which is missing from The Sims 2: Legacy Collection. To sweeten the deal, both collections also include bonus content: The Sims 1 features the Throwback Fit Kit, while The Sims 2 comes with the Grunge Revival Kit on top of all the other add-ons.
EA's re-release of these classic The Sims games is a significant event, as it's the first time in over a decade that both titles have been readily accessible. The Sims 1 was originally only available on disc, making it nearly impossible to play on modern Windows machines without tracking down a physical copy and navigating compatibility issues. The Sims 2 was last available in 2014 through the Ultimate Collection on EA's Origin store, but that was discontinued some time ago. With these new collections, all four The Sims games are now easily purchasable and playable through digital storefronts.
In our original reviews, we gave The Sims 1 a stellar 9.5/10 and The Sims 2 an impressive 8.5/10. Although the series has evolved significantly since then, adding numerous new features and refining gameplay, the original games still hold a special charm with their playful simplicity, unique challenges, and historical significance.
You can now find The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection available for purchase on Steam, the Epic Games Store, and through the EA app.
