World of Warcraft Patch 11.1 brings a fresh visual overhaul for Shamans, with abilities like Lightning Bolt, Crash Lightning, and several others getting significant makeovers. While numerous classes receive updated visuals in the patch, Shamans stand out with the most extensive changes. However, not all fans are fully on board with these new particle effects.
Currently available on the Public Test Realm, WoW Patch 11.1 offers players a preview of the upcoming changes. Alongside new zones, instances, and various rewards, the patch includes balance adjustments for every class, featuring a major rework for Hunters.
A substantial number of classes are also getting new visual effects for their abilities, with Shamans receiving the most attention. Lightning Bolt, Crash Lightning, and Fire Nova undergo complete visual transformations, while Frost Shock sees both new visuals and sounds when used with Ice Strike. Additionally, Ghost Wolf now scales with character models and is slightly more transparent, and the Glyph of Spirit Raptors works with the Flowing Spirits talent. WoW content creator Doffen has produced videos showcasing side-by-side comparisons of these and other visual updates coming in the patch.

Despite the enthusiasm for many of the Shaman visual updates in Patch 11.1, some fans are not entirely convinced. While most appreciate the changes to Crash Lightning, Fire Nova, and other abilities, opinions on the new Lightning Bolt animation are mixed. The channeling effect has been significantly improved, but some players miss the unique, instantaneous bolt from Cataclysm, lamenting the return to the classic projectile lightning ball visual.
Overall, the visual updates in Patch 11.1 receive positive feedback from the player base. There's hope that Blizzard will introduce new Glyphs allowing players to revert to popular original VFX, similar to the Shaman Ascendance forms update in Patch 11.0.5.
In addition to revamping existing abilities, Patch 11.1 introduces several new skills to World of Warcraft. Notable additions include Primordial Storm for Shamans, Symbiotic Relationship for Druids, and Slicing Winds for Windwalker Monks—the first Empowered spell outside of the Evoker class, Earthen racial abilities, or Plunderstorm. Players can look forward to exploring these new talents alongside the enhanced visuals for existing abilities when Patch 11.1 rolls out, likely around February 25.
