Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker cameo in *The Mandalorian* is etched in the annals of *Star Wars* history as one of the most astonishing surprises. During *Star Wars Celebration*, Rosario Dawson shared with us her jaw-dropping experience on the set of *The Book of Boba Fett* when Hamill unexpectedly appeared. She had no prior knowledge of his involvement until he walked onto the set, leaving her utterly shocked.
To keep Luke's cameo under wraps, Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau ingeniously used Jedi Master Plo Koon as a decoy in the scripts. This tactic successfully threw off potential leaks, but it also led to a hilarious moment for Dawson. She recounted reading about Plo Koon's supposed arrival in her script, which bewildered her as much as it would any *Star Wars* fan familiar with Plo Koon's tragic fate in *Revenge of the Sith*.
"I was like... I don't know... but people disappear and then they come back, so maybe it's possible?" Dawson mused. The surprise escalated when Mark Hamill appeared on set, exclaiming, "Plo Koon? That wouldn't even make sense!" to which Dawson replied, "I know it didn't make sense, but I still had to think it made sense because I got the script and everything!"
Filoni and Favreau expressed their regret over not informing Dawson sooner, admitting, "That was bad on us!" Filoni added with a chuckle, "We were in it so much. I think we assumed you'd gotten told the right information." Favreau elaborated on the importance of secrecy, stating, "There were two secrets we knew we had to keep on the show. One was Grogu's reveal at the end of the first episode, and the other one was Luke Skywalker at the end of season two. We were biting our nails all the way the whole way through, and we somehow miraculously made it cleanly to both of those because everything else leaked. But, unfortunately, we didn't fill in our partner here."
Dawson took the mix-up in stride, humorously noting, "I love it, they know I can't be trusted."
