Resident Evil 4 Remake Sales Surpass 9 Million
Capcom's Resident Evil 4 remake continues its phenomenal success, recently surpassing 9 million copies sold. This achievement follows the game's release in March 2023 and subsequent releases such as the Resident Evil Gold Edition and an iOS version. The impressive sales figures build upon the game's earlier success, having already reached 8 million copies sold just a short time ago.
The remake, a reimagining of the 2005 classic, follows Leon S. Kennedy's mission to rescue the President's daughter, Ashley Graham, from a dangerous cult. A notable departure from the series' survival horror roots, the remake shifted the gameplay towards a more action-oriented experience.
Capcom's official Twitter account, CapcomDev1, celebrated the milestone with celebratory artwork featuring beloved characters like Ada, Krauser, and Saddler enjoying a game of bingo. The game also recently received a performance update for PS5 Pro users.
Record-Breaking Success
The Resident Evil 4 remake's sales trajectory is unprecedented for the franchise. According to Alex Aniel, author of Itchy, Tasty: An Unofficial History of Resident Evil, it's the fastest-selling Resident Evil game to date. This is particularly striking when compared to Resident Evil Village, which reached only 500,000 copies sold in its eighth quarter.
Anticipation for Future Releases
Given the overwhelming success of Resident Evil 4, fans eagerly await Capcom's next moves. A remake of Resident Evil 5 is high on many wish lists, especially considering the relatively short timeframe between the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes. However, other titles like Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil CODE: Veronica also hold significant potential for modern remakes, given their importance to the overarching storyline. Of course, a reveal of Resident Evil 9 would undoubtedly be met with immense enthusiasm.
