*R.E.P.O.*, the chilling co-op horror game that burst onto the scene in February, has captured the hearts of over 200,000 PC gamers. But what about console players? Are they going to get a chance to dive into the eerie world of *R.E.P.O.*? Here’s everything you need to know about the potential for a console release.
Is R.E.P.O. Coming to Consoles?
Currently, *R.E.P.O.* remains exclusively a PC game, and there's no indication that a console version is in the works. The game's developer, semiwork, has been tight-lipped about any plans for a console release. Their focus is firmly on refining the PC version, particularly its multiplayer features, which have encountered some challenges.
One of the main hurdles semiwork is facing is the issue of cheating in multiplayer lobbies. They're striving to enhance the game's multiplayer mechanics without compromising the experience for players who enjoy mods. As the developer explained to PCGamer, "The main issue with matchmaking lobbies is hackers. But the issue with an anti-cheat system is that you’re ruining the experience for everyone who has made mods, because mods don’t work with an anti-cheat system. And we don’t want that." This complex problem needs to be resolved before any thoughts of a console port can even be entertained.
While other PC-only games like *Mouthwashing* have made the leap to consoles, it's worth noting that *Mouthwashing* is a single-player game, which simplifies the transition. Similarly themed games like *Lethal Company* and *Content Warning*, which also involve sneaking past monsters, have stayed PC-exclusive. Last year, the developers of *Content Warning* hinted at a possible console release but cited technical difficulties. Since then, there's been no further news on that front.
So, will *R.E.P.O.* come to consoles? At this point, the answer is no. The developer has not shown any interest in a console version and is instead concentrating on perfecting the multiplayer experience for PC players.
