Securing your shelter in the zombie-infested world of Project Zomboid requires more than just finding a suitable location. Fortifying your safehouse against the undead hordes is crucial, and barricading windows is a fundamental step. This guide details how to effectively board up your windows and enhance your base's defenses.
How to Barricade Windows in Project Zomboid
To barricade a window, you'll need specific materials: a wooden plank, a hammer, and four nails. Once gathered, right-click the target window. Your character will automatically begin securing the plank. Each window supports up to four planks for enhanced protection.
Resource locations are realistic: hammers and nails are typically found in toolboxes, garages, sheds, closets, etc. Planks are commonly located at construction sites, or can be salvaged by dismantling wooden furniture (shelves, chairs). Administrators can utilize the "/additem" command for item spawning.
Barricaded windows significantly hinder zombie access compared to unguarded windows. More planks mean increased resistance. To remove planks, right-click the boards and select "Remove." A claw hammer or crowbar is required for removal.
Note that large furniture items (bookshelves, refrigerators) are ineffective as window barriers; characters and zombies will pass through them. However, understanding furniture manipulation remains valuable for interior design.
More robust barricades are possible using metal bars or sheets, but require sufficient Metalworking skill.
