The Pokémon Company has confirmed that Pokémon TCG Pocket will not be joining the competitive circuit anytime soon. Dive into this article to uncover more about the future of Pokémon TCG Pocket within the competitive gaming scene and explore the potential reasons behind this decision.
Pokémon TCG Pocket Won’t Be In The Competitive Scene Just Yet
No Plans For Competitive Pocket
As of now, there are no plans for Pokémon TCG Pocket to become part of Pokémon’s competitive circuit. Chris Brown, the Director of eSports at The Pokémon Company, shared in a February 25, 2025 interview with VGC that while they continually evaluate different titles for competitive inclusion, Pokémon TCG Pocket isn’t on the immediate horizon.
In a light-hearted moment, Brown referenced the Pokémon Sleep Champion Tournament, an April Fool's parody, saying, "Pokémon Sleep is out there too." He then clarified, "But at this time there are no plans for Pokémon Pocket to join, but we’re always looking at things."
Too Early And Unbalanced
Although no official reasons have been provided for excluding Pokémon TCG Pocket from the competitive scene, fans have their theories. The game, launched in October 2024, is still in its infancy, having only released two sets in its first four months.
Despite including competitive features since launch, the community has called for better balance to address ongoing issues. Pokémon TCG Pocket is designed as a more accessible and simplified version of the original Pokémon card game, prioritizing a beginner-friendly experience over a competitive one.
Nevertheless, the Pokémon Competitive Circuit continues to thrive with events featuring Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite, all set to dazzle at the Pokémon World Championships in August 2025 in Anaheim, California.
