DC Studios head James Gunn has officially announced that Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on Max on August 21. Alongside this exciting news, Gunn shared a brief clip of new footage featuring John Cena in action, with a memorable moment where he smirks at the camera amidst a backdrop of flames. In the teaser, someone remarks that Peacemaker is now "a superhero."
Gunn expressed his enthusiasm on Twitter, stating that the Season 2 premiere is "one of my favorite things ever." He further mentioned that he recently completed the DI & Mix on the season premiere, indicating his hands-on involvement in the production.

Peacemaker Season 2 follows the release of Superman on July 11, marking the beginning of Gunn's rebooted DCU. It will be the third installment in this new universe, succeeding the Creature Commandos TV series from last year and the upcoming Superman movie this summer.
This new cinematic universe, spearheaded by Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran, diverges from the previously criticized DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. Despite the shift, certain elements will persist, with Peacemaker serving as a bridge between the old and new universes. While Season 1 was part of the DCEU, Season 2 will be integrated into the DCU.
Gunn has assured fans that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," although the specifics of what will transition from the DCEU to the DCU remain undisclosed. He confirmed that the entire cast of Team Peacemaker will return, with John Cena reprising his role as Peacemaker, joined by Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.
Moreover, Gunn revealed that the storyline of Peacemaker Season 2 will take place after the events of both Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events directly impacting the series.
