Palworld developer Pocketpair is gearing up for an exciting crossplay update, slated for release in late March 2025. In a recent post on X/Twitter, the studio confirmed that this update will enable multiplayer functionality across all platforms and introduce a new feature allowing world transfer for Pals. Accompanying the announcement was a promotional image depicting various Palworld characters engaged in combat with a significantly large Pal.
John 'Bucky' Buckley, Pocketpair's Communications Director and Publishing Manager, hinted at "a few little surprises" that will be part of the March update, adding an extra layer of anticipation for fans. This is excellent news for the game's 32 million players, who have been enjoying Palworld since its early access launch in January 2024. The studio has outlined an extensive content roadmap for 2025, which, in addition to crossplay, includes an "ending scenario" and a range of new content for this immensely popular creature-catching survival game.
Since its launch, Palworld has been available on Steam for $30 and included in Game Pass for Xbox and PC, setting new records for sales and concurrent player numbers. The overwhelming success led Pocketpair's CEO, Takuro Mizobe, to admit that the studio was unprepared for the massive profits generated by the game. In response, Pocketpair quickly capitalized on this success by partnering with Sony to establish Palworld Entertainment, a new venture aimed at expanding the IP and bringing the game to the PS5.
However, the game's rise has not been without challenges. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have filed a lawsuit against Pocketpair, alleging infringement on "multiple" patent rights and seeking an injunction as well as compensation for damages. In response, Pocketpair has identified the patents in question and made adjustments to how players summon Pals in the game. The studio remains steadfast, ready to defend its position in court, stating, “We will continue to assert our position in this case through future legal proceedings.”
