Capcom Unveils Onimusha: Way of the Sword Gameplay, Starring Miyamoto Musashi
Capcom recently showcased fresh gameplay footage for its upcoming action title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for release in 2026. The trailer, debuted at the PlayStation State of Play, not only revealed exciting gameplay but also confirmed the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi as the game's protagonist.
The trailer highlights intense sword combat and formidable foes, promising a thrilling action experience. Musashi's portrayal blends impressive swordsmanship with a charismatic, even comedic, personality.
Capcom describes Onimusha: Way of the Sword as a dark fantasy action game featuring one of Japan's most celebrated historical figures. Interestingly, Musashi's in-game likeness is reportedly based on Toshiro Mifune, the renowned Japanese actor known for his samurai roles.
The game's setting is a demon-infested Kyoto, overrun by the malevolent force known as Malic, which is summoning hellish creatures into Japan. This marks the first new entry in the Onimusha franchise in two decades. To bridge the gap and build anticipation, Capcom also announced a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, launching May 23, 2025.
