Gamers were hit with a wave of disappointment last week when the Nintendo Switch 2 preorder date shifted from April 9 to an indefinite "who knows when?" This change came after import tariffs introduced by President Trump caused turmoil in financial markets, and the ripple effects have now crossed into Canada. Nintendo Canada has confirmed that pre-orders are also delayed north of the border, dashing any hopes of securing a unit through a Canadian connection.
"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not start on April 9, 2025, in order to align with the timing of pre-orders to be determined in the U.S.," Nintendo of Canada stated to the Canadian tech site MobileSyrup.
"Nintendo will provide updated information at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, remains unchanged."

This echoes the statement Nintendo of America provided to IGN on April 4, although the Canadian version omits any specific mention of tariffs.
"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025, in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, is unchanged."
With the original pre-order date of tomorrow now gone, gamers are left in limbo, eagerly awaiting any news on when they can finally start their pre-order process. There's also growing concern about potential price increases beyond the initially announced price of $449.99.
Meanwhile, in other regions, Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders have already begun in the UK, with smaller retailers like EE, GAME, and Smyths quickly selling out. Scalpers have taken to eBay, offering pre-orders for £500 ($639) or more, well above the retail price of £395.99 ($506).
